Platelets: 25
Weight: 66.9 (thanks to being pumped full of fluids - NOT from consuming too much food here!).
Boy did I sleep last night. After sleeping most of the day, I thought I'd be awake all night, but not the case. They were in/out of the room most of the night - unplugging the chemo bag, taking obs, plugging back in IV antibiotics. I sort of opened my eyes briefly as they came in and then slept through the rest of it!.
Woke at 5.30am with bloods being taken but fell back asleep until 7.30am! Thought there was no more sleep left in me - but I was wrong.
Next bag of chemo was due to start at 8.00am, but the nurses here are so busy (great, but busy) so it was delayed until about 10.00am - but no great issue - I wasn't going anywhere. So showered - which is a bit harder now as I'm hooked up to IV line so bit more limiting.
Around 11.00am I dozed off again, only to wake with blood in my mouth and gums were bleeding again. This time it didn't stop until about 3.30pm and it didn't help with the nausea! To have gauze, tissues etc in my mouth was making me gag and the taste of blood was not great! I was sucking on ice trying to get it to stop, but nothing would work.
I received a bag of blood today, and then they decided to give me platelets - and hopefully that'll help stop the bleeding gums for a while!
So it has just been bag after bag I've been hooked up to - the fluids & antibiotics, the chemo, more fluids, the blood, the platelets, more fluids, more antibiotics...
Started feeling cold again around 5.00pm - which indicates temperature starting to go up, but the panadol helped bring it down again a bit faster than yesterday so then I start feeling hot and sweaty! Nothing seems to remain the same for too long.
I would like to come out of this stupor of sleepiness - but then again, it makes the day go by a bit quicker. I got as far as picking up a book today but didn't get around to opening it. I have either slept or stared into space - something that I thought I wouldn't be doing!
All I can say is that there is nothing that prepares you for this challenge - so deep breaths, each hour as it comes....
